This second edition of School Of Bass 4/4 beats night presents you DJ HASHEK and DJ JAS NASTY!

Both of these individuals are very well known for their long term commitment in the local Ottawa scene and it is an honor to bring them to the School Of Bass.

Nice bass, lasers, smoke machine, many black lights, you name it! More artists will be added to the bill very soon so stay tuned!

Jas Nasty – [ http://twitter.com/jasnasty, http://jasnasty.wordpress.com/]

Jas Nasty loves dirty beats. Driven by heavy bass, you can expect to get down when she drops the best of UK Garage, 2-step, grime, dubstep, bassline, techno, house, reggae, retro & beyond.

Jas founded Women on Wax MTL in 2005, along with Cyan, and was involved in the early Montreal dubstep scene, opening for pioneers Skream and Kode 9 at Ghislain Poirier’s night Bounce Le Gros in 2006. Now in Ottawa, she continues to foster an appreciation for bass sounds & her love of collecting and sharing good music, old and new.

Over the years, Hashek has expanded his musical genres to fit many different venues and shows. A veteran DJ of over 15 years, he switches from house to techno, from psytrance to progressive and other genres in between to accomodate any event. Hashek is also the brains behind Alweezgrooven, an annual free festival in nature. Alweezgrooven has also become a way of life for many like-minded people who follow their hearts and dreams into musicland. Hashek is considered by many to be one most technically proficient DJs in the city, having won the latest So You Think You Can DJ competition at BPM afterhours for Framework Music, where he holds a quarterly residency.

We have Kensaii from Montreal + another surprise guest from out of town! DnB all night!
Kensai aka Max Brett has been djing for 15 years. Intrigued by hip hop scratch and beat-juggling styles in the mid-90’s, it wasn’t until 2000 that Kensai shifted his focus to drum and bass after laying some of his dancehall records over dnb. After moving to Montreal in 2004, Kensai connected with Nitrous through the indajungle underground parties. The two continue to collaborate on tracks under the name Co_oP (formerly Stylust) and on the weekly Bass Renegades radio show on www.techno.fm. Kensai likes to incorporate all styles of drum and bass into his sets, allowing him to build a nice flow while blending diverse genres for exciting contrasts.

This is the first appearance of Rusha D in the Ottawa DnB club scene!

Jocelyn Dee is a toronto-based DJ, producer, podcaster, and music journalist. She has written many articles discussing electronic music and profiling local and international talent. Some of her portfolio of past articles are online at her website – jocelyndee.com

You can also visit her website and listen to studio and live sets and Jocelyn’s own original tunes, which are updated regularly.

Jocelyn Dee is part of a toronto-based promotion company called Drum Bass Entertainment (DBE). Alongside partner Dexy G, she co-hosts a monthly podcast – DBE News and Reviews – that discusses the latest news from the world of dnb, reviews new dnb tunes and more. In addition, she hosts a regular segment profiling Canadian dnb news for the Canadian Content Drum and Bass (CCDNB) podcast.

In her 10+ years playing professionally, she has graced the decks of clubs throughout Toronto/GTA, Ottawa, Cambridge, Montreal, Vancouver and the USA. She has also held numerous residencies at clubs in Toronto and Ottawa including: D1 Thursdays/Chronic Soundsystem, Chicks Dig It, Sound Soldier, Beatdown, and more.

She has also played at many underground events, loft parties and music festivals, including the Om Festival, Big Foot, and The World Electronic Music Festival. She is no stranger to the radio with past appearances on two of Toronto’s key underground radio stations: 88.1 FM CKLN and 89.5 FM CIUT. While living in Ottawa, she co-hosted 2 radio shows on Ottawa’s 93.1 FM CKCU. Currently, she is a regular guest on on the Rugged Rinse Out Show hosted by the Sauga Sound Crew on Krisisdnb.com.

http://jocelyndee.com/

Dexy G was first drawn to electronic music back in ‘91. He had a few friends that were going to raves, and Although raves intrigued him, he never really had the desire to go. But this all changed a few years later in the summer of ’94 when he heard jungle for the first time. It was in the form of tape of Kenny Ken live tape at Syrous’ legendary Judgment Day rave. “I loved the sound of this new music, so I had no choice but to attend a rave and hear it live,” he says, and on October 8th 1994 he went to a rave by Syrous and Pleasure Force called Renegades.

Fast forward to ’98. After attending a SHIT LOAD of parties, he decided to throw his own! Alongside his best friend Chris Gorski, he founded a promotion company called Ganja Smile. Ganja Smile events were predominantly theme parties, such as their “All Scratched up” events featuring an entire lineup of dnb scratch DJS, their MC Battle event featuring 20+ MCS, and their old school event, just to name a few.

Ganjasmile events consistently drew strong crowds (often over 1,000 people), and featured A-list international talent including: Marvelous Cain, the Congo Natty Crew, the Knowledge & Wisdom Crew and John B. The last Ganja Smile raves was in 2003, however, since then Dexy G has thrown a few parties here and there under different names.

Around the same time he started Ganja Smile, Dexy G also started as a DJ – MCing soon followed. “It was a natural progression for me to pick up a Mic and move from DJing to MCing because after giving MCing a try I felt it was the only way I could fully express myself,”he says.

Over the years Dexy G has MCed for countless local and international DJs at raves and club nights throughout Toronto, including: Sound Emporium, Big Bop, Bar 254, Opera House, and The Docks, just to name a few, in addition to out of town gigs in Montreal, Peterborough, and other towns. He has also MCed on the radio and at underground events and festivals, such as the World Electronic Music Festival.

In the past, he did much work with DJs Queensyze and Code Blue (Tune Inc. Recordings), until ‘04, when they moved to Vancouver. He now MCs predominantly for KevSolo (Brand X), Jocelyn Dee (jocelyndee.com/Sound Soldier/DBE) and CaTashtrophe (DF entertainment).

At the moment, look for Dexy G MCing at events around Toronto. But, watch out for big things to come in 2009!

This is an all 4/4 beats event!

Electro, Breaks, EBM, Dubstep!

- Reverie – [Death Disco] – EBM
- HDee vs Sweb – [2SC] – Electro, Dubstep
- Joe Rowe [GBH Records, Trance Gold Records, Peroxide, djjoerowe.com]
- Tortilla (a.k.a Diepsloot) – [Heat] – House

HDee vs Sweb – [2SC] – Electro, Dubstep

These two guys have been mixing together for over 15 years now. They are very versatile with each other and they are bringing two Numark NS7 (total of 4 decks) and more MIDI hardware to combine live sampling and remixing.

They used to be residents at the Bop in Hull, and they have been also played many times at Bass drive / La ptit gueule / Festival des monguolefier de gatineau 2011, as well at the Lounge 426 and Loft 455.

HDee was also part of the group WildKidz. Remember the crazy Hardstyle PA we had at School Of Bass 3? And all the audio gear we had? Well HDee was part of it.

Be prepared for some serious house and dubstep! We are very hyped to bring them alongside of Joe Rowe. And now, October 14th is a perfect timing for this opportunity!

DJHDee – Sample mixes:

http://soundcloud.com/djhdee

- Reverie – [Death Disco] – EBM

Reverie is also the latest addition to School Of Bass. He does EBM as well as different styles of 4/4, we’re very hyped to have this guy in our team. He used to promote his own events back then, so his expertise around the bar scene goes far beyond his Dj skills.
